Hautū – toolkit.
New Zealand School Trustees Association – Hautū are the leaders in a waka that call the time to the kaihoe and guide the waka to travel in the direction of their vision.
Task
Kaihoe (paddlers) use hoe (paddles) to carve through the currents towards their destination. Each crew have their own hoe, designed for the conditions and made from available resources. Boards of Trustees must set an accelerated pace for their school to ensure Māori students enjoy and achieve education success. Like the hoe, each Board will use different tools and resources depending on their school and community.
Using the Hautū theme, we created a tohu design that speaks to the kaihoe (paddlers) and their hoe (paddles) – carving through the currents, driving the waka.
The four key areas of governance are represented by different aspects of the hoe to strengthen the rules and responsibilities of culturally responsive Boards.
