Treaty times thirty.
The choice by the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters (NZSTI) to translate Te Tiriti | The Treaty of Waitangi into thirty languages was truly an ambitious one. It has been achieved by “following a clear process and planning which is intended to demonstrate the professional standards of NZSTI and its commitment to quality translation”.
Task
Selecting our founding document Te Tiriti | The Treaty of Waitangi as the focus of this project was both daring and challenging. A key part of the overall aim was to show the different understandings conveyed by the Te Reo and English texts. It was our job to design a book that reflected the process of 150 volunteer translators, reviewers and editors working together to complete the translations. This is the product of their work.
