Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira.
“He Kāinga Ururua sets out a clear and deliberate strategy to build a resilient, inclusive, and future-focused economy for Ngāti Toa. It recognises the challenges of our time — climate change, technological disruption, housing pressure, and global uncertainty — and outlines a pathway for us to respond with strength and foresight.”

Task
We were engaged to design and lay out He Kāinga Ururua, the Economic Development and Investment Strategy for Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira (on behalf of Ngāti Toa). The visual direction for the report was guided by a line from He Tangi nā Te Rangihaeata mō Te Rauparaha, providing a culturally grounded thematic foundation. “I asked ‘Are we to be divided into little pieces?’ You replied, ‘Stay at Porirua the home of woods and bush, there to attend to your needs’”.
To bring the theme to life, we proposed a large tri-fold illustration as the centrepiece of the Report, inspired by Rangituhi (Colonial Knob). The illustration presents a stylised depiction of Rangituhi and its surrounding ecosystem — a landscape that sustains every participant in the Toa Economy, symbolising the equitable distribution of economic, cultural, and social resources that enable all people to thrive.

We’re a team of creatives – excited about our next project. Seeing is believing, and believing is everything. That’s one reason of many we’re not called beige.
