With patience we learn to adapt.
The New Zealand Cerebral Palsy Register is a confidential database about people with Cerebral Palsy.
The Register has taken a number of steps to achieve their aim of honouring the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This included a whakatauki (gifted by the late Sir James Henare) and a te Reo Māori name for Cerebral Palsy – Hōkai Nukurangi (by Keri Opai).
Task
Our task was to express the essence of ‘Hōkai Nukurangi’ (Cerebral Palsy). Whether traversing the earth (nuku) in body or traversing the sky (rangi) in mind and spirit, a person adapts to different environments, utilising the means and abilities that are appropriate to them – Keri Opai.
We took the essence of Hōkai Nukurangi and the spirit of a bird adapting to different environments and created a cohesive set of graphic elements, from the ‘wing’ inspired logo design to a series of modular terrain patterns that talk directly to the everyday obstacles that people with Cerebral Palsy face, adapt, and overcome.

We’re a team of creatives – excited about our next project. Seeing is believing, and believing is everything. That’s one reason of many we’re not called beige.
